Windows 7 - The Default Gateway Is Not Available

On September 1st of this year (2011), I got a new PC going from Windows XP to 7.  3 times now, 2 of those times being tonight alone, my computer has lost it's internet connection.  When I would hover over the icon in the lower right corner by the clock, it said "the default gateway is not available", it should show like the following:

So what I did was have to right-click on that icon and select Troubleshoot Problems.

It would eventually find and fix the problem each time.  Another computer in my home on the same wireless network running Windows XP had uninterrupted service.  So I came to the conclusion that it had something to do with compatibility issues with Windows 7 to the Gateway, obviously!

After doing some research, the following are the steps you can take to keep this from happening:

Click on the START button in the lower left corner of the computer screen.

Select CONTROL PANEL

Under Network and Internet select View Network Status and Tasks

Click on Local Area Connection

Click on Properties

Uncheck the box next to Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)

Click OK. Close out of all those open windows, if any are still open.

Now, click on the START button again and in the search box type DEVICE MANAGER.

Click on the first one at the top (when you hover over the name, it should say the same description as in the above screenshot).

Click on the black arrow next to Network Adaptors to show your available one, then right click on it and select Properties.

Click on the Advanced tab and under Property, scroll down to and select Receive Side Scaling then under Value, change to Disable.

Select OK.  It will take just a second for it to configure and update the changes.

This should now solve the problem.

ENJOY!!
