Restore a File to a Previous Version

So you open a file, made some changes and now realize you don't like the changes you made.  You forgot to make a copy of the file before you altered it.  Making a duplicate copy is always good practice for reasons like this.  There is an option that may be available to help you recover a file to a previous version.  If your computer does automatic restore points every so often, then you are probably in luck.

Right click on the file you are wanting to revert.
Select Properties.
Click on the Previous Versions tab. Wait a minute for the versions to load and select the most recent copy.

A date and time will also be shown next to them so you can make sure to select the most recent version.  If you have made a lot of changes and the version is way too old, then my suggestion would be to start making a backup copy as soon as you open the file.  I know that doesn't help you now, but it is a great habit to start practicing.

Select the version you want.  You are then given the options of open, copy and restore depending on the file version you choose.  Choose the option that meets your needs at this point.
The restore option will ask you to confirm that you really want to restore the file because once you confirm the action, it cannot be undone.

Hope this helps you to retrieve an old version of a file you need.  If you want to start having this option available to you, then you need to turn on automatic restore point feature.

ENJOY!
