WOT-Web of Trust

This is a really great site that helps you surf the web more safely.  You can see the ratings that others have given sites as well as you being able to rate them too.

You can go to the website itself and search what ever web site you are wondering about.  This is in the top right hand corner.

For example, I typed in Google.com to show you what it will show you.
You will be shown a "scorecard"

There are a few categories given on this scorecard to view on the right hand side.  On this one, you'll see that Google.com was given the highest for Useful Information.  On the left, you will see the overall ratings.  Google.com has been given the highest possible - I sure don't disagree on that one either!!

You can install an add-on into the browser of your choice that will allow a smaller scorecard to be viewed within your web browser, without having to actually go to the WOT website.  What ever site you are on, you would click on the add-on and the below shows the scorecard the will appear - this will let you put in your own ratings of the site,

Now you DO have to sign up for a free account to use the rating feature BUT you do not have to have an account to go to the website and see the ratings on certain sites.  Now some sites may not have a rating yet but most popularly used sites will.

If you DO sign up for an account - every site you rate, make a comment about, or anything you do through WOT. will be recorded for you to be able to go back and view through your profile.

If you are unsure about a site, go to WOT and check it out.  If there are no ratings yet and you are still unsure of your computers safety from using the site, do not use it.  Thats the best advise I can give on that subject!

If you have a website that you sell things on, you can help boost your sales by including a WOT seal of approval on it.  This will help show others that your site is safe for them to use.

One GREAT thing about having this add on is that, in your settings on your WOT profile, you can select the security of websites allowed to be viewed on your computer.  What ever setting you set it to, a warning will appear on your screen warning you about a bad site you are trying to enter (again depending on your settings - the default is "poor" and "very poor" ratings will show a warning for you to ignore the warning and continue to the sire OR ignore the site all together)
